Question 12757: A model airplane is made to the scale 1 inch to 24 inches. If the wing of the actual plane is 18 feet long, how long will the model wing be?
Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can use proportions to solve this problem.
24 inches/1 inch = 18 ft/x ft
But change the feet to inches. 18 ft = (12"/ft)(18 ft) = 216"
Solve for x. Multiply both sides by x.
Divide both sides by 24.

The model wing will be 9 inches long.
