The number of greens varies DIRECTLY as the square root of the number of reds. If the number of reds is MULTIPLIED by 16, that means the number of greens is MULTIPLIED by the square root of 16, or 4.

The number of greens varies INVERSELY as the square of the number of whites. If the number of whites is MULTIPLIED by 2, the number of greens is DIVIDED by 2 squared, or 4.

So one change multiplies the number of greens by 4 and the other divides that number by 4. So together the two changes produce no change in the number of greens.
