Question 1142304: If I can buy a 12 pack of seltzer for $11 and I have $46 on me, how many packs of seltzer can I buy?
My work: I made this a proportion: 12/$11 = x/$46 is this proportion accurate? When I did that I made another proportio: 11x/11 = 552/11. This gave me about 50 packs of seltzer. Is this right?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

Divide $46 by $11 to find how many packs you can buy.

    46%2F11 = 42%2F11.

It means that you can buy 4 packs.

And you will have $2 remained.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you can buy one 12 pack of seltzer for 11 dollars.

how many 12 packs can you buy with 46 dollars.

if you divide 46 by 11, you will get 4 twelve packs with some money left over.

4 * 11 = 44 dollars.

your money left over will be 2 dollars.

you used a ratio of 12/11 = x/46.

you should have cross multiplied to get 12 * 46 = 11 * x.

you should then have solved for x to get x = 12 * 46 / 11 = 50.1818181818.....

this tells you that you could buy 50 bottles for 46 dollars.

but, that doesn't answer the question.

the question was how many 12 packs could you buy.

divide 50 by 12 to get 4 and a fraction.

that says that you could buy 4 twelve packs for 46 dollars.

if you were going to use a ration, the ratio should have been:

1 / 11 = x / 46.

you would then cross multiply to get 46 = 11 * x.

you would then solve for x to get x = 46 / 11 = 4 and a fraction.

you could buy 4 12 packs with 46 dollars.

4 * 11 = 44 dollars.

you have 2 dollars left over from the 46.

you do not have 50 packs of seltzer.

you have 4 twelve packs of seltzer.

that's a total of 48 bottles of seltzer, but they don't want to know that.

they want to know how many twelve packs.

the answer is 4.

your ratio was correct, but you were solving for the wrong variable.\

your variable represented bottles of seltzer.

they wanted twelve packs of seltzer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

it is correct if you can buy a 12 packs of seltzer for $11+
then 1 pack cost $11%2F12=+0.9166666666666667, and if you have have
$46 you can buy 46%2F0.9166666666666667=50.18181818181818
or +50 packs

but, if 12pk+ means 12 fl oz cans in one pack, which costs $11+, you can buy 46%2F11=4.181818181818182 or 4 packs
