Let the constant of proportionality = +k+
I'll write the equation as:

Looking at +c%2Fn+, let +n+=+1+
then you are given that +c%2F1+=+8.5+
Since +k+=+c%2Fn+, +k+=+8.5+

The equation is:
+c+=+8.5n+

The problem is strangely worded. It says:
