A geometry book is comprised of two sections: planar and non-planar in the ratio 5:3. If the total number of pages in the book is 480, how many of each section will be in the book?

There are 5x pages in one section and 3x pages in the other section.
(I do not assume now that x is integer).
In total, the number of pages is 5x + 3x = 8x.
An equation is 8x = 480.
Its solution x = = 60. (Happily, it is integer !).
Hence, the first section contains 60*5 = 300 pages, and the second section contains 180 pages.
