So the numbers are 27 and 28.

Call the consecutive numbers x and x+1. Adding them gives us
x + (x+1) = 55
2x + 1 = 55
Subtract 1 then divide by two and get
2x = 54
x = 27
but the larger number is x+1, or 28.
