What is so special about water at 4 degrees Celsius? Does it have any significance?

The density of water is greatest at 4 deg C.
It expands as the temperature increases or decreases.
Its coeff of expansion is greater below 4 C than above.
That's why ice floats in water regardless of the temperature of the liquid water.
