Question 956097: Please help me solve this word problem:One number is nine more than a second number. Six times the first is 12 less than 4 times the second. Find the numbers.
Answer by Zucchini(70)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X= 9 + y.
6x = 4y - 12.
It's a system of equations. All you have to do is plug in and solve:
6(9 + y) = 4y - 12
54 + 6y = 4y - 12
66 = -2y
-33 = y
Now we plug y into the first equation.
9 + -33 = x
-24 = x
The numbers are -33 and -24
