Draw the picture:
From the point where he begins to cross the field
draw a line parallel to the 80 ft base.

You have a right triangle with legs = 80 and 60
Find the hypotenuse of that triangle:
Ans: diag = sqrt[80^2+60^2] = 100 ft.
