35.9b%5E6+%2B+8.6+=+394.3 Subtract 8.6 from both sides
35.9b%5E6=+394.3-8.6
35.9b%5E6=+385.7 Divide both sides by 35.9
b%5E6=+10.74373Take the sixth root of both sides
b=1.4854
or to the second decimal place,
b=1.49
Now take this answer and plug it back into the equation and make sure the right hand side and left hand side match.
Then you'll have verified that it's a good solution.
