A Tree breaksdown due to a sand storm and the broken part bend such thzt it makes an angle of 30 degree with it the distance between the foot of the tree and the point where the tree touches the ground is 8cm, find the height.
:
cm does not seem right, perhaps you mean meters
:
this forms a right triangle, use the tangent of 30 degrees, the side opposite
is the height (h) of the point where tree was broken
tan(30) =
h = .57735 * 8
h = 4.62 meters to the point where the tree broke
:
You can find the length of part that touches the ground using the cosine of 30. that would be the hypotenuse (H)
cos(30) =
H =
H = 9.24 meters
:
The original height of the tree = 4.62 + 9.24 = 13.86 meters
