Last year, three fifths of the music club were girls,
but this year the number of boys doubled and six new girls joined.
There are as many boys in the club as there are girls.
How many members did the club have last year?
:
let m = no. of members last year
then
.6m = no. of girls (3/5)
.4m = no. of boys
:
boys = girls
2(.4m) = .6m + 6
.8m -.6m = 6
.2m = 6
m = 6/.2
m = 30 members last year
:
:
Check this, 18 girls, 12 boys originally
This year 2(12) = 18 + 6
