Question 789888: A building needs a ramp to make it handicap accessible. By law, the ramp must run 10 inches horizontally for every 1 inch of rise. If the surface of the ramp is 84 in long how far above the ground is the inclined end of the ramp? Round to the nearest tenth of an inch.
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
tan (x) = 1/10
x = 5.7 degrees.
tan = opposite/adjacent
tan 5.7 degrees = opposite/84
Opposite = tan (5.7) * 84
Opposite = 8.4 inches.
This is the height of the raised end..
Hope this helps.
