Question 786982: Solve by substitution method
7x+6y=-10
-8x+y=36

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
7 x + 6 y = -10 .............1
6 y = -10 + -7 x
/ 6 =
y = -5/3 + -1 1/6 x
-8 x + 1 y = 36 .....................2
Substitute y in (2)
-8 x + 1 ( -1 2/3 + -1 1/6 x ) = 36
-8 x + -5/3 + -7/6 x = 36
-8 x -7/6 x = 113/3
-55/6 x = 113/3
/ -55/6
x= -37/9
Plug the value of x in (1)
7 x + 6 y = -10
7 * -37/9 + 6 y = -10
-115/4 + 6 y = -10
6 y = 75/4
/ 6
y= 25/8
