Total length of material = 24yds
3 pieces of 3 1/2 yards = 10 1/2 yards
5 pieces of 2 1/4 yards = 11 1/4 yards
Total = 21 3/4 yards
24 yards - 21 3/4 yards = 2 1/4 yards.
