Possible numerators for any rational root would be from among 1, 3, 11, -1, -3, -11; Possible denominators for any rational root would be from among 1, 3, 9, -1, -3, -9; according to the Rational Roots Theorem. Use of Descartes Rule of Signs can give a good indication how many positive root and how many negative roots are in the polynomial function; using results of this Rule of Signs can give an indication whether to focus most of you initial effort on checking the positive roots or the negative roots. Check any specific possible root using synthetic division which allows you to take advantage of the Factor Theorem (because when the remainder of a synthetic division is zero, the root checked is a root of the function).
