Question 725580: A batsman has a certain average of runs for 16 innings. In the 17th innings he makes a score of 85 runs thereby increasing the average by 3. What is the average before the 17th innings
Answer by god2012(113) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let 'x' be the total runs until 16 innings.
Score in 17th innings = 85
Average of all 17 innings = (x + 85)/17
Average of 16 innings = x/16
Given : (x+85)/17 = (x/16) + 3
x = 544
Average before 17th innings = x/16 = 544/16 = 34
