Solution:
Let 'a' mt be the initial length of the square garden.
New length of the side = (a + 7 ) m
Given : Area of the square garden after increasing each side = 144 sq.m
or a = 5 m
Therefore , initial length of the each side of the original garden = 5 mt.

The new area is 144 square feet, so the measure of the side of the larger square is the square root of 144. The measure of the side of the old flower bed is 7 less than that.
