Question 704713: X=3y
3x=y+8

Answer by Simnepi(216)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Because we are told that x=3y we can use this value in the second equation
i.e.

giving
9y=y+8
taking a 'y' from both sides gives
9y-y=y+8-y
simplifying
8y=8
dividing by 8 gives
y=1
now we can use this value in the first equation to give
x=3(1)
so
x=3
