Question 694211: -x+y=5
x-5y=-9

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-1 x -1 y = 5 .............1

1 x -5 y = -9 .............2
Eliminate y
multiply (1)by 5
Multiply (2) by 1
-5 x -5 y = 25
1 x -5 y = -9
Add the two equations
-4 x = 16
/ -4
x = -4
plug value of x in (1)
-1 x -1 y = 5
4 -1 y = 5
-1 y = 5 -4
-1 y = 1
y = -1
x= -4
y= -1
