factor out the 2:
2(x^2+7/2x) - 4
2(x^2+7/2x+49/4) - 4 - (2)(49/4)
2(x^2+7/2x+49/4) - 4 - (49/2)
2(x^2+7/2x+49/4) - 8/2- (49/2)
2(x^2+7/2x+49/4) - 57/2
2(x+7/2)^2 - 57/2
