Question 661737: Chase worked a total of 10 hours last week. He was paid $4.50 an hour to do yardwork and $5.50 an hour to work at a local supermarket. If he earned a total $51, how many hours did he spend doing yardwork?
Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = yardwork hours
y = supermarket hours
4.5x + 5.5y = 51
x+y=10
4.5x + 5.5(10-x) = 51
4.5x + 55 - 5.5x = 51
55 - 51 = 5.5x - 4.5x
4 = x = 4 hours doing yardwork
