A worker gets an 8% pay raise and now makes $1600 per month. What was the workers old salary?
.
Let x = old salary
then
x + .08x = 1600
x(1 + .08) = 1600
x(1.08) = 1600
x = 1600/1.08
x = $1481.48 per month
