On a recent trip, George traveled 300 miles.The number of miles of highway driving was 4 times the number of miles of city driving. If his car gets 20 miles to the gallon in city driving,and 30 miles to the gallon on the highway,how much gas did he use?

The number of miles of highway driving was 4 times the number of miles of city driving.
If his car gets 20 miles to the gallon in city driving,and 30 miles to the gallon on the highway,
how much gas did he use?
:
Let c = no. of city miles
then
4c = no. of highway miles
:
Find the number of city miles
c + 4c = 300
5c = 300
c = 300/5
c = 60 city miles
and
4(60) = 240 highway miles
:
Find the amt of gas (g)
g = +
g = 3 + 8
g = 11 gallons of gas
