Find an expression for the area of a square with the given perimeter.
P = (12x + 20y) in.
Knowing the rules of the perimeter, we know:
Length = 6x
Width = 10y
If it is a square: L=W, therefore:
10y = 6x
y = .6x
:
A = 6x*10y
A = 60xy
replace y with .6x
A = 60x*.6x
A = 36x^2
