let numbers be x & y
x-y =26................(1)
x= 8 +2y
x-2y=8.................(2)
multiply equation (1) by -1 and add the equation to (2)
-x-2y=-26
-4y=-18
/-4
y= -18/-4
y=9/2
plug y in (1)

x-9/2 = 26
so x = 61/2
