Jenny,Demi,Drew buy an 18in sandwich. Jenny cuts the sandwich so that Demi gets half of what Jenny gets and Drew gets three-fourths of what Jenny gets. Find the length of each person's sandwich.
-----
Jenny's length = x
Demi's length = (1/2)x
Drew's length = (3/4)x
----
Equation:
x + (1/2)x + (3/4)x = 18 inches
---
Multiply thru by 4 to get:
4x + 2x + 3x = 72
9x = 72
x = 8 inches (Jenny's length)
---
(1/2)x = 4 inches (Demi's length)
----
(3/4)x = 6 inches (Drew's length)
