A farmer goes to market and buys a hundred animals at a total cost of $1,000.00.
The price of cows being $50.00 each, sheep $10.00 each, and rabbits $0.50 each, how many of each kind does he buy?
---
Value Equation:
50c + 10s + 0.5r = 1,000
c + s + c = 100
----------------------------------
50c + 10s + 0.5r = 1000
10c + 10s + 10r = 1000
----
Subtract to get:
40c - 9.5r = 0
40c = 9.5r
c/r = 9.5/40
c/r = 19/80
----
# of chickens = 19
# of rabbits = 80
# of sheep = 1
