Question 505153: The sum of a certain number and a second number is -42. The first number minus the second is 52. Find the numbers.
Answer by science4life(1)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+y = 42
x-y = 52
both of the y's cancel leaving
x = 42
x = 52
add them together and you get
2x = 94
divide both sides by 2 and you get
x = 47
then plug in x into either equation and you get
y = -5
