Let x be his speed:
25/x+1=30/x
Since he takes one hour longer going home.
Multiply both sides by x:
25+x=30
x=5
Of course, this should be obvious, Since it took him one hour to travel the 5 extra miles he needed to get home, his speed would naturally be 5mph.
