A line segment is divided into two segments that are in a ratio of 3:5. The measure of one line segment is 12 centimeters longer than the other. Find the measure of each segment.
----
3:5 is the same as 3x to 5x
The longer segment is 5x
---
Equation:
5x = 3x+12
2x = 12
x = 6
---
3x = 18 shorter segment
5x = 30 larger segment
