Question 402308: A 5kg block of ice falls away from the roof of a block of flats, at a height of 26m above the ground.
a) find out how long it takes for the ice block to hit the ground.
b) what is the speed at which the ice block hits the ground.
c) how much energy it transfers to the surroundings when it comes to a stop
(g=9.8)
I have tried and found: a) t=2.3s b) v=22.54m/s but the last part i'm lost!

I have the same answers for parts a) and b)
Energy (E) is given by:
where m = the mass of the object and v = its velocity.
You have correctly calculated v = 22.54 m/sec and m is given as m = 5kg, so we substitute to get:

Joules
Since:
1 kg-AMP Parsing Error of [m^2/sec^2]: Invalid function '': opening bracket expected at /home/ichudov/project_locations/algebra.com/templates/Algebra/Expression.pm line 70. . = 1 Joule or 1 Newton-meter.
