Question 388752: Ok! Hers my situation. I'm 50 years old. I have known algebra. I made a commitment with myself to enroll in a University full time to accomplish a double major. (1). (BS) Mathematics (3yrs.) & (2). (BS) Civil Engineering (2yrs.).
Now ! my question is this I would say I am at a elementary math level (pre-algebra). My primary goal is to reach a calculus for engineering level. What is the most direct route without skipping any steps of course map should I take and what format should I use? DVD's with practice sheets, online tutor, interactive structured tutor session's ect.,? I start this Spring semester January, 24, 2011

The basic order would be

1) Pre-Algebra
2) Algebra 1
3) Algebra 2 (you may be able to combine the two algebra classes, but it's not advised)
4) Geometry (this may be optional)
5) Pre-Calculus
6) Calculus (there are various levels of calculus)

This is the basic route that I've gone through and countless others I know have gone through. It may vary depending on the school.

The most effective way to learn all of this would be to go one-on-one with someone so you can talk about what you're learning. If you can't do that, interactive software would be your best bet. Of course, the classroom is also a good place to learn as well.

Check out the online schools, there are several.
I don't know what they cost, and there are doubts about the credits being transferrable, but you will acquire some knowledge.
