I came up w/ 6third power-3xsq+7x+3

You're close. (4x^3+2x-3x^2+1)+(2x^3-5x+2)=6x^3-3x^2-3x+3. Be careful with signs- it looks like you did 2x+5x, instead of 2x-5x.
