how many ounces of a 5% alcohol solution must be mixed with 4 ounces of a 10% alcohol solution to make a 6% alcohol solution?
% in A * amount A + % in B * amount B = % in C * amount C
5% * x + 10% * 4 = 6% * (x + 4)
0.05x + 0.1 * 4 = 0.06x + 0.06 * 4
0.05x + 0.4 = 0.06x + 0.24
-0.01x = -0.16
0.01x = 0.16 (divided both sides by -1)
x = 16 ounces
