Question 303647: Explain in words how to solve 4(y – 3y) – 19 = 32
Answer by graphmatics(170)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To solve 4(y-3y) - 19 = 32 first use the distributive property on 4(y -3y) to get
4y - 12y - 19 = 32
Simply the y expressions to get
-8y - 19 = 32
To isolate y first add 19 to both sides of the equation
-8y = 32 + 19
now divide both sides of the equation by -8
-8y = 51
y = 51/8 = 6 3/8
