the width will be x-3
area of rectangle = L * W
area = x(x-3)
108=x^2-3x
x^2-3x-108=0
x^2-12x+9x-108=0
x(x-12)+9(x-12)=0
(x-12)(x+9)
x=12 feet is the length of the rug
12-3 = 9 feet is the width of the rug
