let's use an example: 3 + 6 x (5 + 4) ÷ 3 - 7
first you want to do everything in the parenthesis. (5+4)
so then, it would be : 3+ 6 x 9 ÷ 3 - 7.
Next you want to do the multiplication and division. I'll do it in two steps:
6 x 9 =54
3+ 54 ÷ 3 - 7
54 ÷ 3=18
so you have: 3 +18 -7
Combine 3 and 18 which is 21 then subtract 7 and you get an answer of: 14.
The order of operations is :
Rule 1: First perform any calculations inside parentheses.
Rule 2: Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right.
Rule 3: Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right.
