Question 1205080: On a map, a square field has a perimeter of 8cm. The actual area of the field is 10,000m². What actual area does the 1cm of the map represent?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the perimeter on the map is 8 cm.
that means each side of the square is equal to 8/4 = 2 cm on the map.
the area on the ground is 10,000 square cm.
that means that each side on the ground is equal to sqrt(10,000) = 100 cm.
since 2 cm on the map is equivalent to 100 cm on the ground, then the ratio of cm on the map to cm on the ground is 1:50.
one square cm on the map is equal to 1 * 1 = 1
the equivalent square cm on the ground is equal to 50 * 50 = 2500
