Question 1171925: A triangle is formed by the building's height and shadow. Another triangle is formed by the flagpole's height and shadow. Using the following diagram, find the height of the building.
The building has a height of x and a shadow of 45 feet. The flagpole has a height of 40 feet and a shadow of 5 feet.
45ft.
5ft.
40ft.
The height of the building is _________ feet.

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x/45=40/5, similar triangles (draw this)
x=360 feet height of building, 8 times the length of its shadow.
-also
shadow is 9 times longer for the building, so height needs to be 9 times more than the flagpole, or 360 ft.
