Question 1163472: Two points X and Y, 7 metres apart are on the same horizontal ground. The angles of elevation of a point P from X and Y are 50° and 70° respectively. Q is a point on XY produced such that ∠YQP = 90°.
(i) Illustrate the information in a diagram.
(ii) Calculate, correct to two decimal places, the length

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

You can do your own arithmetic.

I think Ikleyn missed on this one. X, Y, and P are in the same plane because any three points define a plane, further Q is coplanar with X, Y, and P because Q is given to be on the line segment XY.

My calculator said it, I believe it, that settles it

As posted, the problem formulation is  INCORRECT  or at least confusing.

To be correct and clear,  it  MUST  SAY  at the very beginning that the points  X,  Y  and  Z  are in one vertical plane.

As a reminder :   we live in  3D-space.

John,  before argue with me,  PLEASE  read my post from the beginning to the end.

I said  "in one vertical plane."

Do you see the difference  ?
