Answer by josmiceli(19441)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A's rate of working:
[ 1 job ] / [ 12 days ]
B's rate of working:
[ 1 job ] / [ 18 days ]
-------------------------
Let = fraction of job completed
with both working for 4 days:

Multiply both sides by

That means there is
of the job left to do
Let = time in days for B to finish:

It will take B 8 days to finish the job working alone

.
In 4 days A completed of the job; at the same time B completed = of the job,

so working together 4 days, our workers A and B completed = = of the job.

Hence, of the job remained to be done.

The rate of work for B is of the job per day.

Therefore, B needs = = 4*2 = 8 days to complete the remained job working alone. ANSWER
