Arrange the 2nd equation for substitution
x = 2y + 17
in the 1st equation, replace x with (2y+17)
-4y - 3(2y+17) = -11
-4y - 6y - 51 = -11
-10y - 51 = -11
get rid of all those negatives, multiply by -1
10y + 51 = 11
10y = 11 - 51
10y = -40
y = -40/10
y = -4
find x
x = 2(-4) + 17
x = -8 + 17
x = 9
