A rectangular gutter open at the top is to be made from a galvanized steel that is 36 inches wide by turning the sides up.
Express the area of the cross section as a function of the height, h, of the gutter, and find the domain
:
looks like this
h|__|h
:
Width = (36-2h)
:
Area = height * width
f(h) = h(36-2h)
f(h) = 36h - 2h^2
Find the h when
36h - 2h^2 = 0
divide both sides by 2h
18 - h = 0
h = 18, therefore h < 18
:
Domain: >0 and < 18
