x*12 = how much 12 children eat PER DAY, call it y
48/y = how long the 48kg will last in days (you should get 5)

I prefer to solve such problems in this way: = , where "d" is an unknown number of days. The left side is an amount one boy eats in one day. The right side is the same amount presented for the other scenario. So both sides have clear physical meaning. Then all you need to do is to solve the proportion for the unknown term. d = = 15. Answer. 15 days.
