This lesson is not a mathematical lesson, it is a guide to help you post images along with the problem. Some problems have images that accompany the question (eg geometry, area, perimeter problems, etc...), so it is necessary to post the images along with the full problem. This saves you from describing the image and tutors from making the wrong assumptions. Also, if your work deals with a lot of mathematical symbols (ones that are not easily reproducible on this site), then posting the image of the work is a much easier way to go.

Here is a step-by-step guide to post images alongside the problem:

Step 1: Getting the Digital Image

If the image is already in digital form (ie it is on your computer already), then ignore this step. If not, then scan in the page that has the image and edit the image. Make sure to save the image as a name you can remember (keep the name short and simple) and in a location you can find easily (like the "My Documents" folder)

Note: if the image is large, then it may take a while to upload. So it's important to edit out the parts that aren't important

Step 2: Finding the Right Image Hosting Site

Once you have the image on your computer, navigate to an online image hosting service. This website will allow you to show tutors the image in question (since algebra.com doesn't allow direct image uploads). Here is a list of some image hosting sites: Photobucket, Flickr, Tinypic, Imageshack. There are plenty of other choices available also.

Note: if you are having trouble with the image hosting site, there should be help guides available (either directly from the site itself or a 3rd party)

Step 3: Uploading the Image

Upload the image (the "upload" box should be right on the front page) by selecting the image that you saved earlier. If you have a slow connection, then it may take a while to upload (especially if it's a big file). So be patient if this occurs.

Step 4: Linking the Image

When the upload is done, you should be looking at the image. Depending on how the site is designed, there should be a box which has the link to the image (in the form of http://www...). Copy this link.

Note: every site does it a different way (and I haven't used every site). So if you are lost, take a look at the help guides.

Step 5: Posting the Image to Algebra.com

Now go through the motions of asking a question. Instead of just asking the question, paste the image link alongside the question. Now when you have a visual problem (such as an area problem), tutors can find the image that you are talking about.

Note: some links will make the image show up directly on the algebra.com website, while others will simply be text links.
