No. 50% off and then an additional 40% off is not 90% off. First you take off 50%. Then you take 40% off of the 50% that remains.
Start with $90 and take off 50%, you have $45. Then take off 40% of the $45. 0.4 times 45 is 18. 45 minus 18 is 27.
