.7*87.31+.3x=90
x = 96.2767 needed

His goal is 90%
So far, he has 87.31 * .70, or 61.117 points toward his 90
For the other 30%, he'll need 90-61.117, or 28.883/30
He had better study long and hard -- he must get 96.28 on his final to get a final grade of 90%.
