Question 892797: What was the original price of an MP3 player that is advertised as on sale for 25% off and the sale price is $60?

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x is the original price.
x - .25*x is the sale price.
the sale price is 60.00
x - .25*x = 60
x - .25*x is equal to .75*x
.75*x = 60
divide both sides of this equation by .75 and you get:
x = 60/.75 = 80
the original price was 80
25% of 80 = 20
80 - 20 = 60
number look good.
solution is that the original price was 80 dollars.
