Question 884503: a girl bought a jacket for $84.00 with a 15% discount. Then paid a 7% sales tax. To the nearest cent, what was the amount that the girl paid for the jacket, including tax?

First we need to find the discount amount. To do that take 15% of 84. Remember 15% is the same as .15 and of means multiply.

84*.15 = 12.60

So she saves 12.60 off the original price so the new sales price would be:

84-12.60 = 71.40

Now she pays 7% sales tax on the dress so take 7% of 71.40 and add it to 71.40. That will get us:

(0.07 * 71.40) + 71.40
=4.998 + 71.40
=76.398

Or rounded to the nearest hundredth we get $76.40
